Cats Against Brexit

March 24, 2019

I’ve been reading the Facebook page of Sargon of Akkad. Latest content from him and some of his commenters…

The remainers are the most insufferable, entitled, spoiled bunch in the world.

Ironic signs are indicative of self-interest and not principled opposition, you fucking selfish shits.

Who are these people?

SO they want to remain because of thier cats? Huh? Could some explain to this confused Yank what they mean by that?

I’ve been observing people with this point of view for a long time. Not content to be confused or to repress my anxiety about these views (the usual response non-philosophical people resort to) I’ve come up with an answer that makes sense to me.

Anarchist History of New Zealand made an observation that wraps it all up in one tidy explanation..

A defining r-selected trait is to view mankind not as individuals but as an amorphous blob of sameness. Distinctions like being female or disabled or transsexual or criminal or paedophilia or Muslim or Christian or elderly or child all get blurred out, do they not?
More extreme, animals and plants become subsumed into the same homogenised group because individual difference is so actively blanked out from consideration. So, we see such people finding having children of their own interchangeable with pets like cats and little dogs; And their children are aborted or left in daycare unparented so the Millennial can get back to their ‘life’.- The Anti-Individuality in r-Selected Cultures

“Why do people fly with their pets on small trips? I understand if you are going somewhere for a month, but really? The cat needs to come with you to Oktoberfest?” asks another Sargon commenter. Substitute ‘children’ for ‘pets’ in your question; Does it make sense now?

To these sorts of Remainer Muggles a pet is a substitute for having a son or daughter. They’re not individualists. They’re an inch or two away from wanting the same rights for animals or plants as for people. To drop the jargon bomb: They are Millennials, they are r-selected, they are Victimhood Culture, they are, as Germaine Greer put it, “a lot of Bourgeoisie Bitches.”

They don’t see you as you, as an individual; Just a fellow rabbit. I think people get that about the r-selected groups of Slave Culture and Victimhood Culture. What you might not have considered is the corollary that they do see pets and animals (and plants!?) as being as much (or little) a person as you are.
