Unlocked MPs

Two very successful members of parlaiment are under fire for not abiding by the Lock Down edict. Simon Bridges (Leader of the Opposition) and David Clark (Minister of Health) have both exceeded the travel permitted to any of we poor tax livestock.
Health Minister David Clark demoted after taking beach trip amid lockdown; Stuff
I have no problem with the Minister of Health having a home recreation range of 2km drive or even 20km. He’s not hurting anyone, he’s re-charging his batteries and connecting with his family by walking and biking (then he goes back to his job as a Mafia Minister in The State, but that’s another matter….)
However, in the Labour 6.0 fairytale he has broken the rules of his own Health Ministry’s improv’ comedy sketch.
“…he would be stripped of his associate finance minister portfolio and be demoted to the bottom of the Government’s Cabinet rankings. “- ibid
So then, the Prime Minister still needs this guy in order to keep her position at the topĀ¹. All this means is that we’re expected to believe that David is sitting in a less comfortable chair at the big round Cabinet table in the secret meetings (that are probably conducted via e-commute currently anyhow.) A token slap on the wrist.
The Lock Down Fairytale is not for the Bosses, it’s for the Slaves. Even the top Minister didn’t take it seriously in Week #1!
Simon Seeks Visibility in Jacinda’s Show
Within the Fairytale (that I don’t accept) and within the idea that our Democracy is legitimate (which I also don’t accept; Anarchist!) there’s nothing wrong with Simon Bridges wanting to play his part.
Our Government is essential, our Opposition is part of that constitutional democracy, and Simon is the head of that part of our society. As such, he must be free to function and to attend the capital. He’s “essential,” a check on power. Especially so when he’s not causing any biohazards in that role.
If you still believe in the New Zealand legal system, particularly Public Law, then you cannot find any fault with the Opposition Leader going where he needs to be. His being called out is nothing more than partisan politics.
