Paper Kiwis

July 10, 2020

By NZB3

The Clutha-Southland electorate (previously Wallace electorate) in Southland used to be a National Party rock. From 1957 to 2014 it was in the hands to two men who were just about identical: Brian Talboys and Bill English. After 2014 things got weird as the sober straight men were traded in for wonky Millennial mavericks. The first one, Todd Barclay, almost instantly self-destructed by in-fighting with his own staff that included his bugging their conversations!

This week the latest wonky Millennial in that electorate, Hamish Walker, blew his nice Safe Seat too. According to the headlines he’s just some kind of crazy person who goes around leaking confidential private medial information to the press. So is his associate (handler?) Michelle Boag, who has been an National Party operator since the time of old Talboys himself. It’s the sort of amateur mistake that gets you fired, and it did. So why would these two make such a rookie error?

Paper Kiwis

Hamish Walker’s point was that the quarantined ‘Kiwi’ (as the Government and the media call them) is actually not one of us. He,…they are exotic foreign folks carrying disease and the question is raised about their being brought onto our shores en mass and in secret.

But instead of having that debate it blew up in Walker’s face and he’s lost his job. Taking Michelle with him.

I think this pair of Nats were trying to give the press enough of a wiff that they’d go hunt down the story about the diseased Paper Kiwis. Make Labour 6.0 look bad.

“National MP Hamish Walker is not happy and quickly fires off a press statement warning up to 11,000 people were headed for Southland from “India, Pakistan, Korea”.”

“Calling me a racist is Labour’s default tactic when they are unable to defend their blatant failures. It’s not about race,” he says.- Behind the Covid leak: How the downfall of Hamish Walker unfolded; NZ Herald

Instead, the press liked the wiff they got from Hamish and Michelle instead! The pack of dogs hunted them down instead. Blew up in their faces. Labour (Minister Megan Woods in particular) won the shoot-out by somehow turning the press dogs away from her administration and on to those blowing the whistle on it. The National Party leadership seem to have no power (or no interest?) but to wave goodbye to Hamish and Michelle as they’re ravaged!

I can’t believe that Hamish and Michelle were really defeated by Woods using the magic word “racist” and nothing else. Surely a deal must have been done with the press. Perhaps by turning their teeth away from Labour 6.0 and onto Hamish and Michelle the reporters in question are sealing a deal for a role in Labour’s next term. It wouldn’t surprise me to find that Kristin Hall of TV1 or Amelia Wade of the NZ Herald are rewarded for choosing who to guard in this case and who to maul to death.

So, after all that. What happened to the story about the Indian, Pakistanie, and Korean Paper Kiwis? Are the people in isolation really New Zealanders like the white faces shown on the TV news reports? Are they our kids and brothers and sisters caught off-shore during COVID who have made it back to home base better late than never? Or are they a bunch of aliens with the right paper work? Paper Kiwis, Civic New Zealanders, not really us except that they somehow aquired the right swindle sheets…

“Why don’t you just f*** off and go back to where you came from?” Kiwis in isolation are fearing the cases of isolation absconders will heighten public animosity towards those doing the right thing. The government says there have been reports of abuse towards Kiwis in isolation, & those in central Auckland can no longer exercise on-site because of “friction” with the public.”- Kristin Hall, ibid

Such questions are “racist” and will not be looked into, two powerful politicians were burned in the attempt. Whatever people on the street are responding to, whatever they saw, whatever they know, is dismissed as abusive racist random street heckling. We may find out what was really going on in years to come. Or, never.

Don’t feel bad for Hamish Walker though because as a politician he’d happily do the same as was done to him. Feel bad for the truth and that the closest account of it you will be able to read is the half-guessed approximations hinted at on some obscure Anarchist blog at the back of the internet!
