Health NZ: Centralise and Segregate

District Health Boards to be abolished, Central Control of the Health System is upon us. Health NZ.

“A new Māori Health Authority will sit alongside Health NZ, empowered to commission services specifically for Māori and to develop Māori health policy.”- All DHBs to be replaced with national health agency, Newsroom (April 2021)

Ah, and with a separate Maori Health Authority we are also entering an official era of segregation. Apartheid in medicine, in other words.

Every new Government strives to capture the politicised parts of our lives. They want *their* staff and *their* suppliers and *their* cashflow not a structure set up to advantage previous governments. Labour 6.0 will re-make health in its own image, just as previous governments have also done and not just in health but in everything we let government into. (Centralised Education can’t be far off either, what’s taking them so long?)

Labour 6.5 will overhaul schooling, corrections, health, energy, police, national accounts, media, reproduction, gender relations, affirmative action, labour markets, social welfare, local government, farming, the electoral system…you name it. Like bacteria, they’ll change the environment to make it friendly to their own kind while excreting toxins to make it hostile to their own support base. Something a bit different here is that it’s another step forward in the increasing trend to centralise everything. Media, schools, police, transport, history,…The concentration of power shifts from being local to being more centralised onto a supercity and, ultimately, to Wellington itself. (Some might say, even more ultimately, the United Nations!)
