The List/Pass

What in the Western World is going on here?

To new-release movies just hit my alerts list within as many days. They appear to be the same film but in each case feature the two different favorite demographics: The Black Man and the White Woman. I haven’t seen anything this devious since Black Man and White Women were put in a movie called The Mountain Between Us (2017) and the cause of their woe and suffering is the incompetent white man pilot/white snow-capped Patriarchy Mountains. That was a Two For One.

In this case The List (2023) and The Pass (2023) both share the premise that monogamy is not a rule but more of a guideline. It’s OK for Halston Sage (who quite The Orvill for this?) to seek out a celebrity to have sex with because her partner/fiance was ‘licences’ to do similar and had exercised the opportunity. Whereas, Robert Riley, in his film, is also in a marriage that allows an infidelity ‘pass’ day for himself and his wife. When two films surface in such close succession who am I not to sense a pattern?

It may be they are just exploring the idea and that a moral lesson will be learned. Perhaps they’ll dabble in a degenerate Sex In The City ethic and then recoil having learned their lesson the hard way? To know that would involve watching the films.

But the very fact that these films have been released that involve exploring that premise shows that marketing has researched for this audience interest. It’s a question we’re asking. True signs we are in the Third Turning/Unravelling phase of history.
