Is gender voluntary or involuntary?

Well, you know I’m a radical libertarian so you must know I place a very high premium on personal responsibility. To Anarchists a person is held responsible for their own choices and that includes their personality.
None of this ‘the devil made me do it’ or ‘I’m not responsible for my success, God is’ malarky. No. Craft your character to your moral ideal and be proud, you will have earned it.
Personality then, including gender, is an act of volition. Humans have the unique ability to choose their own values and pursue their own happiness. But that means we can also choose wrong. And that also means we might have to undo our mistakes and that can be very difficult. It’s very difficult to turn the ship around on something like gender if you’ve been doing it ‘wrong’ in childhood. Personality is very sluggish once in place but, ultimately, we are beings of volitional consciousness and gender expression is voluntary.
That’s why we try to reform criminals. That’s why we have therapy and counselling. The premise of Western Society is individualistic. It embraces the principle that individuals are personally responsible and do not need to be deterministically controlled or killed off or ‘made to be’. That we will self-organise within a free market without the need of some Stalinist Control Economy. That freedom works.
