Each of us is a Climate in Himself

Few people, even thinkers, would give the Pope’s statement more than a derisive chuckle. Vincent Jamie McLeod is probably the only other guy I know who wouldn’t.
Pope says coronavirus outbreak may be one of ‘nature’s responses’ to climate change”- The Hill

Unless you’re acquainted with Chaos Theory or fractals…unless you’re a really big fan of Ant Man comics or really thought hard about ‘The Grinch Who Stole Christmas’ it sounds absurd. Yet, like the population of Dr. Seuss’s ‘Whoville’ we humans really do live and die inside one tiny snowflake. Carl Sagan called it the ‘pale blue dot’. We (except for me and Vince, of course) forget that in our vanity.

Fungi, for example, are a huge part of our world that play a crucial role in ecosystems, enabling plants to obtain nutrients and causing material to decay. Without fungi, life as we know it simply would not exist. Actually, we are a small part of THEIR world of which we understand little.

Nor do we take an active part in our everyday conscious lives in the current affairs news and evolutions constantly occurring to us at a species level, organism level, community level, molecular level, and genetic level. Did you even know molecular evolution is is happening inside all of us and that a New Zealand evolutionary biologist had proven it?
“Life’s a looming battle to be faced and fought!”- Mr Banks, Mary Poppins
Likewise, with little awareness from your conscious parts, a germ war is constantly going on in your body. Your immune system is endlessly encountering new pathogens and adapting to them while leaving you and your higher functions to take similar risks in the worlds of commerce and society and emotion etc.
The ‘everyday you’ is only dimly aware of what a tall stack he is of battles and conflicts piled up separately yet inter-dependent of each other. One human is a compound organism more than he is a single unit. Each of us is a *climate* in himself. Loss of homoeostasis at any one of dozens of levels (I like the word ‘lattices’) will kill ‘you.’

I doubt the Pope is intelligent enough to even have an analogue idea of the above. I doubt he is thinking of any climate other than the one Political Environmenalists think of too. However, I do think that when people talk about those things it is a dim stand-in for an imperfect comprehension of all of this. And I certainly do accept that the climate is ever changing and that our little human world up here at the top does, and is, living on the back of far more powerful cosmic forces.

I think everyone is intelligent of understanding that in but it’s too terrifying for them to contemplate. Whereas, I love it.

Note: Not tagging this to Anarkiwi. It’s not that sort of post
