Lockdown Clown Diary

Covid-19 Diary: May 11th

Seem to be living on another planet. Have to keep reminding myself that the strange and paranoid behavior of the people living around me is based on the idea they believe- really believe- thousands of lives depend on obeying Big Brother.

While Labour 6.0 re-negotiates their New Deal with businessmen we are living in a Clown World. Behind the scenes the Government must be making industires offers they cannot refuse because, if they do refuse, the Lockdown release or the form it takes will ensure their hurt.

Wanted to go tp Mitre10 to buy a band clamp. Usually I’d rummage around in a tactile search and find what I wanted and be done in minuites. They needed me to figure it out online then come back the following day! So I didn’t do it. I made my own clamp by daisy-chaining 3 smaller ones.

Progress at Super Cheap was much faster. Whereas at PB Tech and New World I just wait in the carpark for a text to summon me, the auto store brought their goods to me. As I was unable to pop my boot the guy left my purchase on the ground like some radioactive substance before backing away so I could approach! I heard from the next exchange that if you do pop your boot so the goods can be put in the guy can’t even shut it for you! He’s got plastic gloves and the goods are inside a special pouch but they can’t even close a boot!

Similar scene at Dominos Pizza tonight. The woman insisted she could only take phone orders so I called the number provided as I stood at the front door. Moments later the phone in that very store rang and we were able to communicate. I could hear her better in person than over the phone but only now was she ‘allowed’ to transact my order!

These staff are doing as they’re told, possibly against their own better judgement. A place like Dominos or Super Cheap don’t want to get a bad wrap from the Prime Minister who is not above using her political power to single out and bad mouth a particular business. She did it not long ago with Uber Eats by reccommending customers not use them because she did not approve of their prices. If retailers and fast food outlets don’t play this Clown game of Simon Says they might be signaled out too.

I visited a mechanic today and a rural wholesaler. They behaved normally as if we were grown ups and not still in Room 4 Standard 4 at Primary School with our teacher Ms Ardern. I really do think State Schools have prepared and conditioned the population over the past 40 years or more to obey authority. A critical mass of the mainstream are subservient people-pleasers and the Government is taking full advantage.
