New Ahaura Bridge

June 5, 2021

By NZB3

Are West Coasters afraid of Maoris? Worse, are they afraid of taniwha? Since I first migrated across the clapped out old wooden single-lane Ahaura Bridge I found Coasters to be refreshingly non-Politically Correct. Especially so when it comes to Environmentalists and the Department of Conservation. Nobody minds being vigorously against 1080 poison pellets or Woke Greenies.

Yet, somehow, the Coasters are afraid to upset Maori river gods!?

About 2 weekends ago, the long-overdue replacement for the old Ahaura Bridge (est. 1929) was due to be opened. This (image left) is a brand new “shovel ready” project finally green lit during the year of COVID-19. It has been opened, though not officially, and then closed again. Before the official opening a poor unfortunate man on a group rafting expedition fell out of his boat and drowned. This somehow has something to do with the new bridge still not being open.

“In recent days, a rafting accident on the Ahaura River not far from the bridge, caused a rethink on the opening date, says Waka Kotahi Acting Director Regional Relationships Ian Duncan.” – New Zealand Transport Agency

Why the extra long delay? I’m very much afraid it is for politically correct reasons. By Maori custom we can expect a death in the river would require a cooling down period of tapu followed by some special witchdoctor dispelling of evil spirits. The river god must be pacified by our sacrifice before this new bit of key infrastructure on State Highway 7 can be accessed.

I’m afraid I’m right and I’m afraid everybody knows it but cannot say. Many people’s jobs depend on being Politically Correct so they cannot be self-expressed for fear of losing their jobs or their social standing. Even private enterprise runs this week, as the Eagle Brewery discovered last month. Because they repress what they know about their complicity to superstition they get very triggered when someone brings it up. To be repressed is just like being suppressed except the person in question doesn’t even know they’re doing it which makes their fight/fright event all the more energetic. I’m afraid I’ve sparked off a few by walking on eggshells I didn’t even know existed!

Asking The Question: Is the delay due to Maori superstition?

Here are some responses I got on (public) social media for asking if the obvious were really true? The post has been deleted because in their fight/flight the repressed became too verbally abusive. If it were up to me this would not be so because it means the verbally abusive, the least rational among us, get to control debates…

Andrew Crook Rick Giles a person died in a jet boating accident. Show some goddam respect. If that gives tbe crews more time then so be it. They have done a fantastic job.

It was rafting, not jet boating. What has holding up an engineering project got to do with grief? Working harder and finishing the job is how we show respect in New Zealand. Not shutting down to placate imaginary water demons.

Carl Colville At the end of the day Rick, what’s more delay to a bridge you have never used as yet. Have some respect also to the family who has had a loss

Acts of sacrifice are not how we pay respect to the dead in our society. It’s interesting that for many people it seems to be the case though! No wonder terrorism works. I’ve always thought the best tribute was not to let your life be disrupted. Or, the best way of fighting fear was to press on not to yield.
Good question though. How much are we sacrificing by delaying for the sake of evil spirits? How to calculate the risk of using the clapped out old bridge? How many minutes multiplied by how many people sitting and waiting on the side of the road venting carbonmonoxide to no use? How much freight is delayed. How much over-budget is this project because it needs to go on another and another week? It’s a job for a clever accountant.
vs
Just finish the thing and stop pandering to Maoris.

Carl Colville Rick Giles are you in the real world? Just bloody wait.. you have done without…and no need to throw the race shit in the mix. It’s fuckwits like you that continue the race bullshit. It doesn’t matter what colour the person was that lost their life, they are still a person

Very telling reply here. To Carl there’s a big bad grab-bag of things that go together in a set. Supersitition, brown people, race, Maoris, Political Correctness, human sacrifice, and being Woke.

Note, I never brought up race at all be he’s sure I must have. I’m talking making our public infrastructure dependent on superstition. About river demons dictating our civil engineering projects.

Carl is so repressed that all he knows is that a taboo subject has been raised involving a grab-bag of things that must not be talked about without triggering him. I suspect he has a government job.

Blair Kells Anderson Rick Giles best ya hop back on the boat back to England then. Whats it got to do with you in dorkland.

This one wants to exile me for asking a question and/or having a view and/or having lived in Auckland. Repressed people are unable to have an Open Society or even an open debate. They can only try to shut people down and exile them unless they conform. It shows that Anderson thinks that they would be kicked out of their home if they were to say what they really thought.

Blair Kells Anderson Rick Giles no its your attitude not asking a question.

Blair clarified that she was ‘attitude policing’ and perhaps ‘tone policing’. Some unspecified, unmeasurable, aspect about my tone means I’m to be exiled to England, apparently. This, of course, it totally irrational and unreasonable which is how you know we’re dealing with someone’s inner pain.

Carl Colville Rick Giles piss off dickhead…your not worth replying to after this. Cock sucker

Carl had become so triggered by now on behalf of his fear of upsetting Maoris that he had gone into Flight mode. But on his way out he offered enough verbal abuse to ensure the thread would be shut down. Unfortunately, moderators usually don’t have the backbone to stand up for justice and prefer peace. Negative Peace, to be specific, which is the sort of peace you have when problems and anger are suppressed rather than resolved. That’s how New Zealand gets things done these days.

Note also, the man who was lecturing me on respect turns out to be hypocritical. Knowing how this worked out, that the man is deeply conflicted about his fear of upsetting Maoris, there is no way something so moral high-functioning capacity like respect could ever be expected.

Bob Broadhurst Who the fuck is Rick Giles? a brave keyboard warrior standing on his soap box in Auckland, who can’t even spell Taniwha correctly (before he corrects it tanipha)

Two interesting observations about Bob. One, he’s doing that un-personing trick by talking to everyone else rather than me. He’s trying to weave a sort of socially constructed spell where I am a thing not a person. A narrative, a dialectic, wherein I am dehumanised and am talked about not talked to. If he is able to do that then, being dehumanised, I can be abused with impunity. The second thing is that he speaks of bravery while instead of confronting me he is using a cowardly tactic of trying to recruit a mob to imagine me out of existence so I can be lynched.

And, again, there’s this weird grabbing at the idea that my argument or view doesn’t count because my (old) profile location says I live in Auckland still. Brave people can engage in ideas and meet argument with argument. It’s a strange form of coward that goes digging in someone’s profile to find their location and make that into the issue as a substitute for the one actually confronting (and triggering) them.

Diane Griffin Craig Clarkson sad. But we’re nearly there! A few more days after how many years of waiting shouldn’t prove too hard for any of us!

A few people have this pacifist attitude of which the above is a good example. A few more days or weeks. This is the person who waits. Who doesn’t want to stand up for their rights and would rather help the people delaying projects by doing their work of apologising. For every Karen who wants to speak to the manager there is an equal and opposite partner who goes around apologising to everyone for her and paying for the trail of wreckage she leaves behind. People like Diane make it possible for projects to go over budget, justice to be delayed, products to be of poor quality, because that is acceptable to her and she persuades others it is acceptable to them too. It sets a low standard for life in general because the comparison is never to what is best or even what is promised but to a ‘it could have been worse’ or ‘it might have been longer’ benchmark.

Andrew Sinton-White You wash your mouth out sir! I present to you (in good humour and with great respect), the incomparable Rick Giles!

And here, my old employee and friend-of-a-friend, Andrew, decides to have a bit of a laugh by posting one of my old media interviews. He’s wise enough to know that doing so will fuel the triggered people in dehumanising me and give them something different to focus on than their trauma about upsetting Maoris. He can see how hungry they are to do that people are trying to lynch me but could only come up with an ‘incriminating’ attitude or home address. Those things are the slim rationale of the desperate looking for a fault to justify the abuse. Andrew gives them something they can sink their teeth into, either because he wants to help them or else doesn’t care that someone is going to be dehumanised so that he can have his joke.

No Room For Anarchy

Sorry to say, New Zealanders like these are not ready for Anarchy. It absolutely makes sense as to why people dealing with so much inner pain, so close to being triggered, demand and require rulers. They can’t think problems through, they can’t tolerate someone with ideas different to their own without trying to tear them apart.

It’s a group of people who pacify, sacrifice, fight, fly, dehumanise, and deplatform. They don’t know how to debate or discuss. They know how to hurt, abuse, dehumanise, and delete the evidence that any such contest was ever attempted.

The upshot of all of this is that we have a perfectly good bridge that it not being given its final touches or opened up for business. And, it’s because of an imaginary river god. Worse, we all know it. Worse still, we are not allowed to talk about it on pain of crucifixion. This is a microcosm of what’s going on in the entire nation. Not just a single bridge but an entire country’s worth of economy and infrastructure is being hijacked by superstition. Triggered people and their anxiety rule New Zealand at the current time and one of the things they’re triggered about is their White Guilt as was also observed at Hokitika about a year ago. I didn’t realise back then how prevalent this Maoriphobia was on the Coast. Mind you, Grey District Council is one of the first to have an Affirmative Action unelected Maori seat on their council so that ought to have been a clue.

It’s not the fault of any Maori that the white people are pandering to them, though some might be opportunistic and take advantage of it. It’s something white people are doing to themselves in the current era. In fact, Maori are suffering from being privileged in this way though that might be a bit hard to see for many in the short-term.

Superstition and trauma are not positive entities either, they’re an absence. There is no monster in the Ahaura. There is no power that will save our climate if we suplicate ourselves, or kill our people in rivers if we don’t bow down. By delaying the opening of this bridge we only make superstitious fools of ourselves. By abusing/exiling/deleting/firing people who refuse to be fools we are crushing someone real with real virtues in the service of an imaginary monster. It’s a form of demon-worship which, athiest as I am, I can see that these people were better off with Christianity than this! Within their own lifetimes, or a generation or so back, this sort of superstitious commitment would have been usefully channeled. By killing God, masses of people are now allowing Civil Engineer Witchdoctors to dictate to them when they are allowed to move or sit quietly waiting to move.
