Suffering vs Happiness

June 19, 2021

What is normal, suffering or happiness? Depends on what environment you live in.
If you live as a slave then you ought to adapt yourself to suffering. By re-imagining failure and pain as normalised you can better withstand the abuse and intolerance heaped upon you without being overwhelmed or anxious all the time. By surviving you or your children may even get out one day.

How you perceive life as a whole plays a role in your attitude to suffering. If you see suffering as negative and to be avoided at all costs and in some sense as a sign of failure, this will add a sense of anxiety and intolerance when you encounter difficult circumstances, a feeling of being overwhelmed. But if you accept that suffering is a natural part of existence, this will help you withstand life’s adversities. – Dalai Lama, Facebook

But we live in New Zealand. Happiness is our natural state. When someone tries to enslave us we don’t surrender, we fight back. When someone causes us pain we don’t associate with them. When something is broken, we fix it rather than lean to suffer it.

Anarchists have had it with suffering. We got  out of jail. We’re not going back!

“The purpose of morality is to teach you, not to suffer and die, but to enjoy yourself and live.” – Ayn Rand
