A Shaw Thing?

2023 Is the year of the General Election and New Zealand must decide to continue with Labour 6.0 or elect National 6.0. Last Friday we were given a taste of what that National 6.0 Government is intended to be. Co-leader of the Green Party, James Shaw, was doing interview rounds in the media about his unlikely team-up with Chris Luxon’s National Opposition.
In this clip from Newstalk ZB (17/2/2023) Shaw accidentally mentions the role of ‘Climate Change Minister’. He had just been asked why the heck a Lefty leader would be puting on a united front with Luxon? “Strange bedfellows,” said the interviewer.
As highlighted in that Anarkiwi video the gaff is reminiscent of a scene from the Avengers film. Loki, like Shaw, is being interviewed and accidentally reveals his play. By giving National the support it needs to get into government the ROI for Shaw hopes to retain his role as Minister for Climate Change under the new regime!
Now, he didn’t literally come out and say that but listening between the lines that’s absolutely what I hear in the clip! So then, National plan to take power by forming a coalition with ACT and the Greens. Or, at least, are prepared to unless they can do without their help.
Shaw has power we can only guess at thanks to his power as New Zealand’s first ever Minister for Climate Change. He’s a broker for various economic activities and is the man who attends international junkets to close deals that trade in the shonky fake world of ‘Climate Change’ and all the silly taxations and restrictions. In truth, National can probably use him because he already knows all the local and international scumbags in this ‘industry’ and how to pull the strings. If he pulls them for National then he can stay. Shaw on the other hand absolutely must remain as Climate Change Minister or else who is he? He’ll have to come down the the world and take some other lesser role. Maybe he’ll have to fight ex-Green co-leader Russel Norman for whatever he does now. Or, kick out ex-Vice-Chancellor Rod Carr and try to grab his job as Chair of the Climate Change Commission? Far better to keep this top job he invented for himself as part of the 2017 coalition deal with Labour 6.0. He can ping-pong back and forth between Labour and National this way just as Peter Dunne once did as eternal Revenue Minister.
Apart from anything else this deal with Luxon makes Mr Shaw more appealing as per the principle of Mimetic Desire. Labour 6.0 will not be able to take Shaw for granted. They might lose him. Other parties want to court him. So, they’ll need to make sure’n offer him an even bigger deal in the next Ministry or risk losing his support.
National, under Luxon, evidently has big plans for Climate Change scamming. Only hours ago they threw one of their MPs under the bus for not sticking to the Group Think…
“National MP Maureen Pugh has done an abrupt about-turn on apparent scepticism about whether humans contributed to climate change after a chat with her boss, leader Christopher Luxon.” – National MP Maureen Pugh’s about-turn on climate change after Christopher Luxon intervenes, NZ Herald (21 Feb 2023)
“”Every time these numbers shift around, we get asked if we would entertain the possibility of going into government with National,” he told AM. “The relationship with Christopher Luxon is good, he did a lot of work when he was in the private sector on climate change so we hope that work continues because they have been very wobbly on that recently.” – Greens co-leader James Shaw says relationship with Christopher Luxon is ‘good’ but ‘fundamental’ issues with National still apply, Newshub (17/3/2023)
Maureen Pugh could not be permitted to get in the way of Luxon and Shaw’s new election strategy or the scams it would permit them to propegate!
Given the new National administration team of Sylvia Wood and Chris Luxon it’s a surprise if an independent thinker like Pugh even makes it to the coming election. This is a National leadership that thinks it owns MPs the way other men own and race dogs and horses. Ref. “National MPs will be under the microscope next week when their leader starts individual performance reviews. Christopher Luxon told political editor Jo Moir some of his caucus would have to change the way they do politics.”, National’s New Wood, NZB3 (2022)
As bad as Labour 6.0 is do we really think the coming National 6.0 is any better? The so-called House of Representatives becomes less representative all the time and Luxon-Wood look forward to continuing that trend. Power is what they care about and they will be more than happy to bring in James Shaw so they can get it and keep it. Blue is just a colour. No values here. No more than there are any in the Robertson-Hipkins Machine.
If you have not already then maybe it’s about time to start taking Anarkiwi seriously as an alternative to Statism?
