Reality Check Rata

Reality Check Radio is upon us and it’s not half bad. I’m actually a little taken aback. I couldn’t find non-Statists or non-mainstream thinkers to join in with. Especially during the COVID Panic the majority have simply obeyed. Yet now, out of the blue from my point of view, there are dozens of shows on a neo-radio platform!? Where did they come from? The answer seems to be the ‘Dark Web’. These are people who retreated from mainstream platforms or were perhaps even banned from them. And now they’ve burst out into the public again with a suite of shows on the Reality Check Radio platform.
There were a number of shows to catch up on yesterday. One was James Harrison who belonged to one of the founding families of Gloriavale intentional community. I thought his interview with Rodney Hide was going to be yet another beat-up for yet another victimhood book (at least 2 so far.) Yet despite differences with his old family it turns out that James and Rodney have a very sympathetic view along with some constructive criticism for Gloriavale who have apparently already been taking it on board.
I like what James Harrison said to Rodney about how Gloriavale’s great error was in externalising salvation to the community rather than the individual. And I like the idea that we are free to choose our medicine rather than submit to a government that jabs us for our own good.
Elizabeth Rata belongs to a different school of thought when it comes to the Extrinsic vs. Intrinsic motivation. Rata had an interview with Rodney too She rejects the self-actualising tendancy of every child to seek growth and development and thinks Big Brother or Big Teacher put it there and we can thank an 1877 Act of Parliament for it.
She gave exactly the same interview to Leighton Smith without any push-back. I’d push back. But there’s nothing to push except hollow mocking laughter for anyone who disagrees with her. I bet she doesn’t even really like quadratics either or if so it’s not because somebody injected it into her against her own will!
