Parklife

Just listening to Radio Hauraki. (Hau-rak-ie not ‘Hoe-raki.’) A Blur song came on and a lyric struck me…
“I feed the pigeons, I sometimes feed the sparrows too
It gives me a sense of enormous well-being
(Parklife)
And then I’m happy for the rest of the day
Safe in the knowledge there will always be
A bit of my heart devoted to it”
Is that why people do it?
For their own emotional needs. Feed belief they are connected to nature, to ‘the day’, the universe.
Because they fed some avian scavengers a few crumbs.
Leverage this a bit to compensate for dopaminergic diminishing returns and you end up with all sorts of environmental nonsense.
End up with the Green Party.
End up with Greta Thunberg and all manner of brain-dead economic deadend junk. Yikes.
I suppose I want enormous well-being too and to be happy all day long. I want to feel safe in the knowledge that a bit of my heart has gone into the world. That’s Eric Ericson’s Generativity vs. Self Absorption phase; Everyone’s got it.
However some of us must think they can get there by Virtue Signalling; Token gestures. Feed the birds. Pay your tithe to Mother Nature and her critters.
Who falls for that? Is it just low IQ people? We seem to have a lot of them about at present.
Maybe I’m falling for it too but my delusion is just a bit more sophisticated? Instead of bread crumbs I’m distributing posts via Anarkiwi? Nah. Ridiculous. I’m nothing like them.
