Peter Gluckman’s Mask Slips

Peter Gluckman is New Zealand’s biggest science grifter. From 2009-18 a new job was invented: Chief Science Adviser to the Prime Minister. AKA The Court Scientist. He shilled for John Key, Bill English and Jacinda Ardern and didn’t care who he sold his science to.

One of the best Science Face Flippin’ acrobatics I remember Gluck’ executing was the time methamphetamine contamination to the State Housing stock was reversed. National 5.0 needed to believe in contamination for a pretense to get rid of State Houses so had Court Science back that up. Then, in 2018, Labour 6.0 needed the “finding” reversed so rolled out Gluckman. As he jibbered something about testing meth using naked toddlers huffing carpet his wingman Anne Bardsley looked as if she was going to die of Imposter Syndrome. I’m surprised she’s still around. Gluckman is still the Science Tzar today. He survived Ardern’s Ministry and now his Very Special Set of Skills has been employed by National 6.0. For the past 6 months or so he has been paid oodles to create a framework for a “once-in-a-generation review of NZ science and universities.” Ref. Listener (2024)

Yesterday those results were released by National 6.0 which basically boil down to the usual Capture The Flag politics. A Government must either take control of any and all institutions or else destroy them. Restructuring, rebranding, etc. is not about making things better but about political control. National 6.0 has just done this with “science” because this too is a political football.

Gluckman cracked me up a couple of times in his political shilling for National 6.0 in his interview on Newstalk ZB last night.

“I would say there’s about a 80 to 90 percent alignment between our report and what government has decided, so I’m very impressed with the decisions they’ve made.” says Gluckman. The pretense, of course, is that he has issued an independent report totally disinterested from politics but all about what’s best for Science itself. He pretends to be “very impressed” that there just happens to be alignment between his findings and National 6.0’s policy.

Innovation and Technology Minister Judith Collins supposedly surprised Gluckman by accepting his independent advice as if her office didn’t put him up to it all along. And now the new (as of today, 24/1/2025) Innovation and Technology Minister Shane Reti has to act out the process of which Gluckman and Collins are the architects.

And the second funny bit to me was when Gluckman’s mask slipped for a moment. Instead of talking about “her” (Judith) or “them” (the Ministry) he said “we.” Gluck said, “And what we’ve done…..what the government has done is..I mean, it’s a logical development!”

People have been falling for this bullshit for years. It’s not because they’re dumb so much as that they’re minds are in a prison called the Statrix. The State Matrix. Anarchists can spot the tricks and know we’re being played. Meanwhile, Gluckman makes a fortune as an esteemed “scientist” by selling his so-called Logical Developments.

Nobody is going to write anything like what you’ve just read. Especially not anyone who wants some of the science payola that the government is splashing around or wishes to gain qualifications or associate with those who do take the government coin.

Meanwhile, true science is made a mockery of. Anarkiwi or bust.
