Deathbed Anarchist Confessions

An old Labour 3.0 and 4.0 politician died earlier in the year, Russell Marshall. This bit jumped out at me…
“Mr Marshall had grown disillusioned with politics, saying that he found that much of what happened in Parliament was little more than a charade.” – Otago Daily Times (15 February, 2025)
The Statists often say that sort of thing on their way out, now free to speak. Longtime Otago Regional Councillor Alexa Forbes is quoted in yesterday’s ODT saying “It’s difficult,..incredibly difficult when you make plans locally and central government squashes them, as in the land and water plan. “We’re really a centrally ruled country with very limited controls and powers given to local government.”
Most famously of all was President Dwight Eisenhower in his own farewell address: “we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist…The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment,…be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.”
Just about bloodwell Anarchist prophets aren’t they? But only on their political deathbeds!
