Breaucratic Popularity Contest

DOC need to win popularity contest. Get more funding in budget.

So, we’re saturated in photos of DOC staff in nifty uniforms in nature hugging kiwis as if the birds just hopped into their arms spontaneously for a cuddle.

Sadly, Police have to do this too. Hence, their various Woke car detailing, tattoos, and uniform exemptions. Ref. Political Policemen, NZB3

All government institutions (many of them) have to allocate their time and resources to publicity and politics. It’s ROI or bust. So we get the situation that institutions we supposedly already want and need campaigning against each other for our love and attention.

Ah, “democracy.”

Used to be that the political campaigning was kept to the representatives we elect. That was when our democracy was new. Now at this more terminal end of its developmental life cycle we have parts of The State spending significant staff time and resources campaigning against one another. Sometimes we even see parts of The State fighting each other in court. All at our expense!

The final tier that signals total collapse is when members within the same organisation fight each other rather than work together. In court, in the media space, or just back-stabbing and in-fighting within the same office. This is already well underway.

I will give another example from today’s news: “WorkSafe has launched a new road cone hotline as part of sweeping reforms by the Government that aim to “significantly refocus”…” 1News (3 May, 2025)

Central Government now has a snitch line directed toward other parts of the government, ie the ones that are deploying road cones either as contractors or formally under a government umbrella. The State is at war with itself.

Bureaucracy expands to keep up with the needs of an expanding bureaucracy- Isaac Asimov

This kiwi-cuddling is a symptom of what ultimately kills The State. The failure is baked in.
