Died With Kidney Disease

Well, that solved an electoral scandal problem…
“Te Pāti Māori MP Takutai Moana Natasha Kemp has died following kidney disease” – NZ Herald
“A byelection will now be triggered in the Māori seat of Tāmaki Makaurau, for which Kemp was the MP. The Governor-General must issue a writ to the Electoral Commission to begin making arrangements for a by-election on the advice of the prime minister. Kemp won the seat at the 2023 election over the incumbent, Labour’s Peeni Henare. Her margin of victory was just 42 votes.”
Hmmm, “died following kidney disease.” Kinda like people “died with COVID?”
One day this Maori Party MP is in parliament, the next she’s dead for reasons yet to be explained.
Where did she die? At Parliament? On a road? Beach? Hospital?
“She was torn between her service to our Māori community in Manurewa and with my request for her to consider standing for Te Pāti Māori in the 2023 Election. ” – John Tamihere, Facebook (26/6/2025)
“She talked about how hard it was being down in parliament, and she said to me, do not even think about coming down here. Stay, stay, our people need you here in the community.” – David Letele, Newstalk ZB news (26/6/2025)
CEO of the Maori Meeting House that collected the votes in the election: She owed her seat to a campaign headquarters also being a polling place which is not allowed; Narrowly defeated the other candidate. Used Census data for targeted campaigning?! This scandal has been unwinding for months now but could not be solved. The heat was on again earlier this week and coming for her. Ref.
Did it mean she had to go? Were all her votes in the House since 2023 void, the laws passed need to be passed again? A Buy Election would have to be called. Parliament re-organised, over-hang recalculated. Parties might lose several MPs who ought never have been there! Real can of worms.
A problem that could have only been solved if Kemp would just go away! Go sailing with Mike Lynch, won’t you?
Heather du Plessis-Allan: Did you see Takutai Tash camp yesterday?
Thomas Coughlan: Yeah, did she was in the debating chamber. She looked perfectly healthy and normal. It was a shock to me, just like I was the shock to everyone in Parliament.
Heather: Yeah, and so do we know what happened last overnight?
Thomas: No. – Ref. Thomas Coughlan: NZ Herald political editor on the tributes for Te Pāti Māori MP Takutai Moana Natasha Kemp, Newstalk ZB (26/6/205)
Well…someone needs to say it.
