Dopes On Ropes

Greenpeace Aotearoa’s latest assault today. Look at how good at this they are.
In the early hours of this morning police were tied up with a number of jobs. It included arming themselves to respond to what they thought were fireworks at Motueka but an ‘informant’ told them was gunfire.
Meanwhile, in Nelson, the ‘Amaltal Columbia’ was scaled at the crack of dawn by activists on ropes. It was about to be high tide so the fishing trip was probably prevented by this activity.
The police arrest and the court dates to come add to the pretty photos taken by other activists from their boats. The Greenpeace press release and photos were out before the mainstream media had a chance to find out what was going on.
The activist organisation will feel thrilled at their press coverage and their internal sense of camaraderie and mission strengthened. The arrested woman has made her reputation and will long be called back as ‘the woman who…’ in the same way the coal-bucket camper at Denniston is a hero to them. Of course, they can do no wrong to public or police or the economy because their Why is so big; They’re saving the planet, stupid.
And they’re very organised. I wonder if Talley’s or the NZ Police are thinking about this big picture and suspected connections?
Apart from the environmental show Greenpeace has put on for itself and its extended audience they are doing much harm. That ship was probably going fishing today and now it cannot. And/or the expense of fishing and security has just been added to as all fishing boats will now need to take extra measures to assess thereat. It puts up the cost of food. Police were already busy today and this event has stretched them further. This is especially so if decoy tactics were used to prank the police into misdirecting their attention and forces.

Another 2 dangling Greenies scaled the rope way at Denniston and held it for 3 weeks. In this case, as with the other, it was a man and a woman. That cost Bathurst Resources $560,000.
It’s not even Spring yet. I don’t think they’re done but only just beginning.
The answer, I think, is not to fight this asymptotically warfare with dopes on a rope. They are too organised, too clever, to sure of their cause.
The answer is to engage them politically with debate in public. We need to reverse the indoctrination and take their convictions away with reasoned debate. Only then will there be no desire and no audience for their harm and aerial acrobatics. Or- if they are in the right- we should change our policy and do as the Greens demand; De-industrialise New Zealand.
But who is going to do that? The only incentive is for a Shane Jones or a David Seymour to calculate the political risk vs political gains from chasing this particular fight vs. all of the others. If it doesn’t win them votes at low cost then they simply won’t lift a finger. Our democracy isn’t well suited to push back on the Green madness except in this very cynical cost/benefit way. New Zealand is very prone to being exploited this way and while that remains the case we can expect more dopes on ropes. I’m looking out for the next incident as these things tend to come in groups of 3.
