ACC in fiscal free fall and part of that is that “sexual abuse” is part of how we define an “Accident.”“Supporting survivors of sexual abuse and assault cost ACC more than half a billion dollars last year, as the number of New Zealanders receiving help through the agency’s sensitive claims service rose nearly 50% in five years.” – Press (7 May, 2026)“Last year, ACC received over 14,000 new sensitive claims and supported over 40,000 New Zealanders who have experienced sexual abuse or assault. That number has increased by 30 per cent over the past five years…Little Matters helps families take small, doable everyday actions that help build clarity, respect and connection.” – ACC (May, 2026)

The State should never have been allowed to replace that and now it’s pointlessly burning through money trying to be a substitute for what healthy communities used to do for free.
