“I’d convert to whatever denomination of Christianity the person constructing the pyre demands”

Damien Grant the Libertarian writer for Stuff news is very sharp and I like him better every time he writes. He is backing up the analysis of Anarchist Libertarian Rodney Hide in judging that the Freedom Protest has the winning hand. Rodney went further saying it’s not a protest at all but a revolt, a rebellion. I think he’s right about that and I’m going to start calling it that too now. What these men have said I have said too. Eventually the politicians will have to relent and I call that The Flip. What’s more, I don’t think the current crop can perform The Flip because they painted themselves into a corner in opposing the Revolt.
Grant has two passages I’ve got to repeat. The first one shows his wit and insight into why Labour 6.0 thought music and sprinklers would work against a revolt because they were projecting out what would have worked on themselves..
“It makes sense that Trevor Mallard put on the sprinklers and played bad music at the crowd, because such a strategy would have deterred him and his parliamentary colleagues. Demonstrations were to be done only in fine weather and during gentlemen’s hours.” – Parliament protest: The podium of truth has shifted and may never return, Damien Grant (Feb 2022), Stuff
The second passage of wit and insight agrees with my thinking on how to beat a Victimhood Culture too. I’ve written before about how New Zealand passes through Moral Culture cycles and one of these Cultures leads to another. The pattern I’ve noticed is that when mainstream New Zealand is in Victimhood Culture it can only be beaten by Slave Culture. It’s not possible to uphold the Culture of being the protector of Victims if you are taking to the masses with fire and batons. That’s why Mahatma Gandhi’s tactics against the Dignity Culture British were successful whereas a less ‘bleeding heart’ ruling Culture would have simply beaten the non-violent Indians to a pulp and moved on with their Raj.
The Prime Minister and many of her NPC cut’n paste drones say that conforming to the Lockdowns and Mandates is proof that New Zealanders are on Labour 6.0’s side when it comes to the Covid Crisis. Grant points out the flaw in this thinking by being able to relate to people who, like rocker Tom Petty, would rather go down swinging than betray their own conscience. Libertarians get that because that choice defined them in their abusive Family of Origin before sublimating into their politics. Grant has also made it through the Magic and Loss phase to emerge as a Libertarian with grey whiskers who is passionate rather than angry and who, to quote Blackadder, would rather have a cup of tea than charge stark naked at the German Frontlines. Few Kiwis cut from the Oppositionally Defiant cloth tailored their material into a Libertarian suit, the vast majority present different symptoms. Such people submitted to be burned alive at the stake like the Christian martyrs the Canterbury Pilgrims admired and named their streets after. Such people submitted to being hung, drawn, and quartered like William Wallace did for Scotland. Such people are revolting on the grounds of the New Zealand parliament and our towns and cities.
“Personally, when faced with the prospect of being burnt alive, I’d convert to whatever denomination of Christianity the person constructing the pyre demands. Few of us are willing to tango with a lion rather than follow the religious demands of the Caesar of the day. But within the makeup of humanity, there is a small percentage willing to die for their beliefs and a larger cohort willing to stand in solidarity in the rain and muck of the parliamentary grounds to defy these mandates.” – Damien Grant, ibid
“I’ve always had my doubts about you trenchy-type fellows. Always suspected there might be a bit too much of the battle-dodging, nappy-wearing, I’d-rather-have-a-cup-of-tea-than-charge- stark-naked-at-Jerry about you!” – Blackadder goes Forth (1989)
“There is absolutely nothing a VC (who rely upon others to be adverse to suffering) can do in the face of that. As we know from the history of the High Middle Ages this is how being burned alive at the stake and being hung, drawn, and quartered finally came to an end as institutions. The SC victims learned to participate in their own murders willingly and as an act of piety; What could be more Clown World than this?” – Meet Your New God: Scepticism Culture, NZB3 (2019)
The Labour 6.0 regime could have the protest cleared by lunchtime if they were willing to use the full measures at their disposal. I’ve read Ross Meurant’s The Red Squad Story (1982) telling of a time when police were drilled in shield-and-baton measures and let off the leash to use them. Those tools are still around today as they were in the 1980s and if not there’s a 2000 year old Egyptian version behind a display case at MOTAT in Auckland to use and duplicate. This could be done and then the officer in charge made the fall guy for going too far, thus protecting the Party. This is not done because we are still of a culture where beating up citizens in the short term will be a disaster to governing them in the long term. Not to mention, embarrassing for Prime Minister Ardern during her Harvard address this May if she’s to tell the college kids about what a great and benevolent leader she is.
The Revolt will endure because you cannot beat people who are ultimately willing to burn. Eventually Cranmer, Latimer, Oxford, Ridley and all became reborn as Canterbury place names. The Revolt will endure because you cannot beat people who are ultimately willing to be hung, drawn, and quartered. Eventually Mel Gibson makes Braveheart (1995.) The up-coming power always has the power of comedy and passion. The down-going mainstream power only has the power to make things criminal and to punish. The former is the stronger power and is always on the rise. New Zealand is in crisis (aka The Fourth Turning) and contesting to see what the New Conformity will be (ref. Anomie and Covid.) Whatever we are in the process of becoming it is very clearly never going to be the puritanical Woke New Zealand we have been these past 5 years or so. We are on our way to a new New Zealand High (First Turning.)
